Portabl wins Innovation Championship for insurance for freelancers and gig workers

Portabl has won the Zurich Innovation Championship for cover for freelancers and gig economy workers like drivers and delivery people. Portabl offers portable insurance, benefits and financial services to those outside traditional working models.

Portabl is the first fully digital platform offering insurance solutions to self-employed workers, who are often uninsured. The insurer uses a non-traditional underwriting model, giving each applicant a score. The insurance goes with the worker from job to job, rather than relying on a single employer risk profile.

The Championship offers start-ups the opportunity to work with Zurich on particular challenges, namely prevention and mitigation, sustainability, and simplicity. Alongside the assistance, there is an open challenge for Reimagining Insurance.
