Pre-retirees diving into jobs with Uber, Airbnb and eBay

The latest RateSetter Sharing Economy Trust Index has shown that 55-64-year-olds are enthusiastic participants in the sharing economy, making money from Uber, Airbnb, and eBay. This age-group have increased - as a group - their income earned using the sharing economy by 121 per cent, which is the highest of any age group, when compared to the previous six months. 

Almost two-thirds of Australians used the sharing economy recently, and that pre-retirees are showing great enthusiasm of the latest ways to generate income. 

The sharing economy is flexible, has gained our trust, and is full of self-employment opportunities for those with the will, but who may not fit into traditional jobs for whatever reason. 

Almost 70 per cent of Australians were willing to use sharing economy services in the coming six months, which is an increase of 27 per cent on the previous report. 

Barriers to using these services were listed as a lack of understanding of the sharing economy and regulatory issues.
