The least healthy generation award goes to...

Using data from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare and AIA Vitality’s Age Calculator, Gen X are performing the worst in terms of their ‘health age’. The health age is calculated using a number of factors including weight, eating habits and alcohol consumption.

Gen X has prematurely aged due to lifestyle habits, being on average nine years older than their chronological age. Millennials by contrast were up to three years older. Baby Boomers were the heaviest, performing worst when it came to weight, having a much higher body mass index (BMI) than the other two generations. Millennials have the lowest BMI.

Baby Boomers have better eating habits, eating the most fruit and vegetables of all the generations. Millennials exercise the most. Gen X drink the most, while Millennials are not as well when it comes to mental health. Baby Boomers are doing the best in mental health.

AIA Australia launched the Age Calculator, a free online resource so we can work out our health age.
