New Appointments

Vanguard appoints head of Personal Investor

Balaji Gopal is the new head of Personal Investor at Vanguard, also joining the executive team in Australia. Gopal has been head of product strategy at Vanguard for three years. Gopal replaces Lori Mighton who has returned to the United States to take on another role within the global business.

AMP Capital welcomes new CEO

Boe Pahari is to take over the chief executive role from Adam Tindall in July 2020. Pahari is the firm’s current global head of infrastructure equity and the director of the United Kingdom, Europe and the Americas. Tindall is retiring.

UniSuper appoints chief risk officer

Andrew Raftis is the new chief risk officer at UniSuper. Raftis has broad industry experience, with international roles at AXA, AIG and Zurich, and sitting on several boards and advisory committees. Raftis replaces Ruby Yadav, who left to join Mercer in late 2019.

Cbus appoints head of infrastructure

Alexandra Campbell is joining Cbus as head of infrastructure, joining from AustralianSuper where she was a senior investment director. Campbell replaces Diana Callebaut who moved to TCorp for another role.

HESTA appoints GM of investment data and systems

Feroz Jordan is the new general manager of investment data and systems at HESTA, moving across from Morgan Stanley as vice president.

Pendal makes new appointments, strengthens ESG

Pendal has appointed two new assistant portfolio managers to the bond, income and defensive strategy teams. A volatility analyst and a credit analyst were also brought on board. Portfolio analyst Oliver Ge was promoted to assistant portfolio manager after being with Pendal for six years. Anna Hong, moving from Uniting Ethical Investors, is now in the Australian Composite and Cash Funds team.

Thomas Ciszewski is a volatility analyst now working on the active long volatility strategy fund. Ciszewski moves to the firm from SouthPeak Investment Management as a portfolio analyst. A new ESG credit analyst, Murray Ackman, is to work across credit funds, in particular the Credit Impact Fund. Ackman was most recently an independent consultant for private equity firms reporting on ESG measures.

Awards

Trustee of the Year Award

The former president of the Australian Institute of Superannuation Trustees (AIST), David Smith, has been posthumously awarded Trustee of the Year. AIST honoured Smith recognising over a decade of service to the superannuation sector. The award has never been presented posthumously.
