New Appointments

State Super head of investments returns as board member

Lisbeth Rasmussen has joined the board of State Super after three years, with her former role being chief investment officer. Rasmussen left State Super to join the Coal Mining Industry Long Service Leave Funding Corporation as head of investments. Rasmussen was also on the board of Equipsuper, then the joined Catholic Super and Equipsuper board, Togethr Trustees.

Christian Super shuffles executives

Nathan Buttigieg is the new chief of operations and product, moving from his role as chief member officer. Buttigieg has been with the fund for 12 years. Astrid Dare has been promoted to chief of member experience. Deputy chief investment officer, David Brown, was appointed to the role in January, joining from Papua New Guinea’s National Superannuation Fund.

Future Fund reappoints two board members

Carolyn Kay and Jane Wilson, previous board members at Future Fund, have been reappointed for another three years and a year respectively.

AFCA welcomes two new lead ombudsman

The Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA) has appointed Heather Gray as its new superannuation lead ombudsman, and Natalie Cameron as its new investments and advice lead ombudsman. Gray starts in May, while Cameron starts in June.

Gray previously headed the national superannuation practice for law firm Hall & Wilcox, and chaired the Law Council of Australia’s superannuation committee, while consulting with the Australian Tax Office, Australian Securities and Investments Commission, Australian Prudential Regulation Authority and Treasury.

Cameron was chief of customer operations at MLC Life Insurance, general counsel and company secretary of AIA Australia, before being appointed as chief executive of the insurer.

BNY Mellon country head leaves

Phil Filippelis, the head of distribution and client services for BNY Mellon Australia, has resigned. Denis Gambi will cover Filippelis’ duties while a replacement is found.

The investment management survey by Peter Lee Associates has named the top-ranked investment managers. Over 100 chief investment and chief executive officers, with institutional investors, were surveyed. Willis Towers Watson and Frontier Advisors received the top place together.
