PIMCO appoints Australian head

PIMCO’s managing director and co-head of the Asia Pacific portfolio management, Rob Mead, has been promoted to head of Australia within the company. Adam Stewart was promoted to head of client management for APAC ex-Japan, with Mead keeping his leading portfolio management responsibilities, but with new key client and industry engagement tasks. Mead has been with PIMCO since 2003. Stewart will move to Hong Kong to take on his new role, while also retaining part of his responsibilities for the Australian and New Zealand client-facing relationships. Stewart has been with PIMCO since 2014.

Media Super welcomes investment head

Michael McQueen is the new head of investments at Media Super after Norman Zhang resigned after two years in the role. Zhang has moved on to legalsuper. McQueen joins from Kinetic Super.

Christian Super appoints deputy chief of investment

David Brown is Christian Super’s new deputy chief investment officer, moving from Papua New Guinea’s National Superannuation Fund.

LGS appoints director

Claudia Bels is the latest addition to the Local Government Super board as a non-executive director. Bels also sits on the boards of Australian Settlements, the Australia and New Zealand Recycling Platform, CBHS Corporate Health, amongst others.

AMP Capital changes to investment team

A new fund management team has been appointed at AMP Capital, lead by Tom Green and Andrew Jeffs. Brett Williams, the former head of the team, has moved to the real estate team as managing director of retail. Green, the new fund manager, has been with AMP Capital since 2017. Jeffs joins from Lendlease.

BlackRock welcomes COO

Alison Telfer, currently general counsel, is now also the new COO and head of public policy at BlackRock. Telfer is a member of the BlackRock Australia board and executive committee, while also sitting on the strategy, product development, funds oversight and risk controls committees. Shane Flatman is leaving BlackRock’s Australian business as chief operating officer after five years. Flatman has moved to Hong Kong to take on the role of APAC head of strategic execution.

Departures

Statewide Super fires CFO and CRO for breaches

The chief financial officer and chief risk officer at Statewide Super have had their contracts terminated for breaches of internal controls. Chief risk officer, Kieran Netting, and chief financial and operating officer, Grant Eastwood, are no longer employed by the fund. Internal investigations are continuing. Project management head, Corlia Van Den Raad, is the acting COO while a replacement is found.

Cbus Super CEO resigns

David Atkin is leaving Cbus Super after 12 years in the role. Atkin will stay on until a replacement is found.
