Global ETF FlowWatch highlights - January 2023

Worldwide ETFs recorded US$64 billion in net flows during January 2023. Bond ETFs led with US$34 billion in net new money, followed by equity ETF products gathering US$29 billion. Meanwhile, commodity ETFs trailed behind with US$1 billion in net subscriptions. Global ETF assets rose to nearly US$9.8 trillion as of January 2023.

In the U.S., bond ETFs accumulated US$23 billion in net flows, led by Bond North America garnering US$15 billion in net subscriptions. Equity and commodity ETFs gathered US$20 billion and US$1 billion, respectively.

ETFs in Europe gathered US$19 billion in net flows. Equity ETFs garnered US$10 billion in net subscriptions, followed by bond ETF products receiving US$9 billion in net new money.

Meanwhile, commodity ETF vehicles suffered with US$358 million in net redemptions. ETFs in Asia accumulated US$1 billion in net new money. Bond ETFs led with US$2 billion in net flows. Meanwhile, equity and commodity ETFs suffered US$692 million and US$264 million in net redemptions, respectively.

Hanwha ARIRANG Total Market Bond(AA- or higher) Active Exchange T was the largest new ETF launch in January 2023, attracting US$236 million in net flows.
