Cbus CEO retires

Justin Arter, chief executive of Cbus, is stepping down in May 2023. Arter will retire from the fund following the merger of Media Super and EISS Super. Arter joined Cbus in July 2020, previously holding leadership roles at BlackRock and Victorian Funds Management Corporation. Following his departure, Kristian Fok, the chief investment officer, will take over as interim chief executive.

ART appoints head of investment strategy

Australian Retirement Trust (ART) has appointed Andrew Fisher as head of investment strategy for both the super savings and QSuper portfolios. Fisher replaces Damian Lillicrap, who has been head of strategy for the QSuper portfolios for 13 years. Lillicrap is pursuing other opportunities.

Cboe welcomes director

Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) commissioner Cathie Armour has been appointed as a non-executive director of Cboe Australia, following the retirement of David Trude. Armour is a financial services legal expert with over 30 years of experience in the industry.

ANZIIF CEO departing

After a decade at the helm, Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF) CEO Prue Willsford is stepping down at the end of the year.

UBS appoints new head of fixed income APAC, welcomes back CEO

UBS Asset Management has appointed Shamaila Khan as the new head of fixed-income emerging markets and Asia Pacific. Khan, who was previously head of emerging markets fixed income at AllianceBernstein, replaces Hayden Briscoe, who will take on a new role as APAC head of multi-asset portfolio management in investment solutions. Briscoe will continue on as Hong Kong head, while Khan will be based in New York.

Sergio Ermotti will return to UBS as chief executive following its takeover of Credit Suisse. Current CEO Ralph Hamers is stepping down, but will remain an adviser. Ermotti served as the bank's CEO for nine years until October 2020.

Pengana replaces chair, appoints new director

David Groves is the new chair of Pengana Capital Group, replacing Warwick Negus, who resigned and is now the chair of Bank of Queensland. Groves is a current non-executive at Pengana and will take over as chair immediately.

Additionally, Brendan O'Dea has been appointed as a non-executive director. O'Dea is currently the chief investment officer of investment manager Washington H. Soul Pattinson and Company and spent 22 years at Citigroup as a managing director.

Antipodes appoints portfolio manager

Antipodes has welcomed Vihari Ross to its investment team as a portfolio manager. Ross spent 15 years at Magellan Asset Management as head of research, responsible for managing a 30-person global research team.

Mercer promotes analyst to superannuation consultant role

Mercer has promoted Kieran Chu to associate of superannuation consulting. Chu joined Mercer three years ago as an analyst within the company's superannuation consulting business.

ACTA Capital appoints MD

Eben Bowditch has left his role as head of sales at Invesco Australia after nine years to become the managing director of corporate development for private equity firm, ACTA Capital.

Legalsuper appoints new CEO

Legalsuper has appointed Luke Symons as its new chief executive following the departure of Andrew Proebstl. Symons, founder of Responsible Financial Services Group, previously served in senior roles at AMP and ANZ over a 16-year period.

iShares appoints head of markets and investments

Nicholas Peach has been appointed as the Asia Pacific head of markets and investments for iShares and index investments, based in Hong Kong. Peach spent 17 years at Goldman Sachs, most recently as managing director.

Frontier loses head of capital markets and head of alternatives, gains senior consultant and intern

Philip Naylor has left his role of head of capital markets and asset allocation at Frontier Advisors to join Spirit Super as deputy chief investment officer. Naylor will also serve as general manager of investment strategy.

Scott Pappas, Frontier's head of alternatives and derivative solutions, is also leaving to return to QIC as a senior portfolio manager in the multi-assets solutions team.

Alice Berriman has been appointed as a senior consultant for the capital markets and asset allocation team, responsible for portfolio construction and working with the emerging quantitative team.

Previously, Berriman worked at HESTA as part of the portfolio construction and risk team for four years.

Viola Miao, a finance PhD candidate at Monash University, has become the fourth intern through Frontier's PhD internship program to join the company's permanent staff. The program involves PhD students undergoing a six-month internship program while working in the investment strategy team.

QIC Real Estate appoints director of strategic partnerships

QIC Real Estate has promoted Briar Dowsett, former general manager of funds management, as the new director of strategic partnerships and mandates. Dowsett will also join the executive team committee.

MLC AM appoints new heads of capital markets research team

Grant Mizens and Ben McCaw have been named joint heads of the capital markets research team at MLC Asset Management, and co-portfolio managers of Choice products. The current head of the capital markets research team, Al Clark, is leaving to pursue other opportunities, but will remain for the transition.

Mizens and McCaw already work together in the capital markets research team. Currently, Mizens is responsible for asset allocation across MLC's diversified portfolios, having joined MLC AM as a graduate in 2006. Mizens joined MLC as a senior analyst in 2008.

Rest appoints head of investment governance

Rest industry superannuation has appointed Kate Griffin as head of investment governance. Griffin joins from the Australian Retirement Trust where she was the divisional risk manager of investments.
