ANZIIF announces Donna Walker Awards

A new award has been created to remember late board member of the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF), Donna Walker. Walker died in 2019 climbing Mt Kilimanjaro and had a distinguished and successful career as a leading finance executive.

The new award is to celebrate individuals who have contributed significantly to the development of insurance professionalism and promote diversity and inclusion in the industry. The award is sponsored by ANZIIF, where Walker was a board member, in conjunction with Allianz, where Walker was chief technical officer.

The awards are to have a winner from two categories: Inspiring Leadership and Emerging Talent. Entries require a video, and anyone in the insurance industry can apply. The prize is $1,000 cash. Registrations open on August 4, and close on September 3 at 5pm.

ANZ welcomes new director

Christine O'Reilly is the latest non-executive board member at Australia and New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ). O’Reilly serves on many boards, including at BHP, Medibank Private, Stockland and the Baker Heart & Diabetes Institute, with a long history of directorships.

Centrepoint welcomes new CEO

John Shuttleworth is the new chief executive at Centrepoint Alliance, moving into the role from wealth management fintech Spitfire. Spitfire entered administration in late 2020. Shuttleworth takes over from Angus Benbow who is taking on a role outside financial services.

Allianz appoints acting CEO

Adrian Stewart is the Allianz Australia Life Insurance acting chief executive, replacing Matthew Rady who is leaving the company. Stewart moves into the role from PIMCO as head of client management for the Asia-Pacific region excluding Japan.

HUB24 appoints chief product officer

Darren Stevens is HUB24’s new chief product officer, moving into the role from MLC as group executive for platforms.

AFA appoints CEO

Helen Morgan-Banda is the new chief executive at the Association of Financial Advisers (AFA), replacing Phil Kewin. Kewin moved into a role at the National Insurance Brokers Association. Morgan-Banda has moved from New Zealand, where she was the CEO at member-driven organisations with the most recent being the New Zealand Law Society.

FPA loses head

Dante De Gori is leaving the Financial Planning Association of Australia (FPA) at the end of 2021 after more than 12 years. The last six years have been as head of the association. A replacement is being sought.

Zurich appoints head of partnerships, loses group insurance manager

John Mirotsos is now the head of partnerships at Zurich, moving from another role within Zurich, national sales manager for group insurance. Paul Trigg is leaving Zurich after two years in the role of group insurance market manager.

Allianz Partners welcomes CEO

Chris McHugh is the new CEO at Allianz Partners Australia, moving into the role from the executive general manager of personal injury insurance. McHugh replaces Miranda Fennell who has been acting CEO for the past few months. Fennell will return to her role as chief risk and compliance officer for Australia.

AFCA appoints six ombudsmen, promotes and reshuffles team

The Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA) welcomes three new ombudsmen and promotes another three from internal roles. AFCA has around 100 ombudsmen.
