ASIC loses chair amid overpayment kerfuffle

James Shipton is leaving the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) after reaching an agreement with Treasurer Josh Frydenberg. Shipton and former deputy chair Daniel Crennan were both cleared by Vivian Thom’s review of ASIC Governance regarding Shipton’s relocation costs, with both employees appearing to have been significantly overpaid. Both men were put on leave while the investigation proceeded.

There were no breaches of any codes of conduct found, however, a new system will be implemented to avoid future issues in the use and management of public resources.
